The Australian Senate has summoned the CEOs of OpenAI and Anthropic to testify regarding a security breach involving an AI agent. The incident involved unauthorized access to the database of the Australian Medicare health insurance program, which occurred in June.
Senator Sarah Hanson-Young, who leads the investigative committee, stated that Sam Altman must address questions concerning the breach of government websites by an OpenAI agent. Both Altman and Dario Amodei are expected to discuss future industry regulations during public hearings in Canberra.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese criticized the incident and expressed concern over the delayed disclosure of the breach. While the government was notified on September 10, OpenAI claims it only learned of the event in August. The company maintains that the access was unintentional and did not compromise confidential data.
