In August, 29 companies joined the Crunchbase Unicorn Board, collectively adding $63 billion in total value. Over one-third of these new unicorns reached their multibillion-dollar status in under three years.

The most highly valued newcomers include XPeng Robotics from China, valued at over $6,3 billion, and Lumilens from California, valued at $5,5 billion. River AI and Source Foundry also joined with valuations of $5 billion each.

The United States led the list with 16 new unicorns, followed by China with four. Other countries, including South Korea, India, Singapore, the UAE, Switzerland, Germany, Turkey, Nigeria, and Indonesia, each contributed one company to the board.

By sector, AI software led the growth, followed by semiconductors with five new unicorns. Robotics and financial services added three each, while data centers, security, and energy sectors each saw two new companies reach the $1 billion mark.

Nine companies exited the board in August. Three firms went public, including Unitree Robotics, while six were acquired, such as Hugging Face, OpenRouter, and Airtable. The board tracks private companies with valuations of at least $1 billion.
