Atari has unveiled a modern recreation of its classic 800XL computer, originally released in 1983. The project is a collaboration between Retro Games, which handled the design, and PLAION REPLAI, responsible for manufacturing and distribution.
The new 800XL features a full-size mechanical keyboard and comes with a THECXSTICK controller. It includes built-in Atari BASIC for retro programming and maintains compatibility with the original 8-bit software library. The device comes pre-loaded with 25 games.
Users can load their own software via USB flash drives and utilize support for cartridge, disk, and tape images. The system also includes save and load functionality for gameplay. Shipments are scheduled to begin on April 23, 2027.
The device is priced at $219.99, £199.99, €219.99, or AUD 349.99. This release marks the return of the 800XL model after a 43-year hiatus.
