Atari has introduced a modern replica of its 8-bit 800XL computer, developed in partnership with Plaion. The device retains the original form factor and features a built-in mechanical keyboard, allowing users to program in Atari BASIC.
The new 800XL includes a cartridge slot compatible with software from the Atari 400, 800, XL, and XE series. It also supports loading software via USB flash drives for added flexibility.
The system comes pre-loaded with 25 classic titles, such as Asteroids and Centipede. Modern gameplay features include four save slots per game and a rewind function that allows players to go back up to 40 seconds.
Connectivity options include an HDMI port and four USB-A ports for peripherals. The package also features an updated version of the classic Atari joystick, now equipped with eight action and control buttons.
Pre-orders for the device are currently available at a price of $246.60. The company expects to begin shipping the units to customers in April 2027.
