On October 8, 2026, the decentralized exchange Astroport disabled tokenholder governance on the Neutron and Terra networks. This decision follows a security incident on September 22, 2026, where an attacker gained administrative control over eight protocol contracts by acquiring voting power through NTRN tokens. The breach put liquidity pools worth approximately $4.9 million at risk, despite the attack cost being only about $20,000.
The protocol is shifting to a contributor-led model using DAO DAO organizations, replacing token-weighted voting with a public proposal process. An emergency multisig wallet will serve as a backup owner to ensure recovery capabilities. While the front-end interface, liquidity pools, and swap functions remain operational, the team has prioritized security measures during this transition.
Astroport is ending all new ASTRO token emissions. Furthermore, the project plans to burn approximately 362 million ASTRO tokens held in the Neutron treasury, restricting future minting to burn-related activities. vxASTRO holders retain the ability to unlock their assets through the standard procedure.
The protocol is pivoting toward a fee-based model to replace token rewards. A planned yASTRO staking contract on Terra aims to distribute protocol fees to stakers. While this mechanism is not yet live, the team intends for it to drive user engagement and provide value to holders following the cessation of token emissions.
