Astera Labs has introduced Orion, a modular rack architecture designed to be compute-agnostic. The platform allows users to customize their computing configurations based on specific requirements and supply chain availability.
The architecture consists of six production-grade reference components: racks, compute trays, switch trays, memory trays, backplanes, and compute boards. These elements support a variety of CPUs and AI inference accelerators.
At the core of the system is the company's 320-lane PCIe switch, which enables low-latency communication and scalable memory capacity across racks and pods. Each pod can accommodate up to 160 accelerators to improve token throughput.
Development of the Orion rack and system design is currently on schedule. The platform is expected to be available through Astera Labs' OEM and ODM partners starting in the first quarter of 2027.
