A technician reported a melted 16-pin power connector on an ASRock Taichi TC-1650T power supply unit. The hardware was used in a workstation featuring an NVIDIA RTX PRO 6000 Blackwell edition GPU, valued at $15 000.

The ASRock PSU includes native 12V-2x6 cables equipped with an NTC temperature sensor designed for the TempGuard system. Despite the cables being fully seated, the connector melted into the PSU socket. The GPU remained functional, with damage limited to the power supply.

The technician noted that the NTC sensor appears to be incorrectly positioned on the ground line instead of the 12 V line. This placement likely prevented the system from detecting rising temperatures and triggering a shutdown to prevent damage.

While TempGuard previously prevented a connector meltdown on an RTX 5090 drawing over 1 300 W, this is the second reported incident involving the ASRock Taichi TC-1650T and RTX PRO 6000 combination, with a similar failure occurring in March.
