The ASRock Taichi TC-1650T power supply unit, rated at 1650W and designed for high-end hardware like 600W-class graphics cards, has faced reports of connector failure. The unit features a TempGuard system, which utilizes a 105°C NTC thermistor embedded in the 12V-2x6 connector to monitor temperatures and cut power if overheating occurs.

A user reported that the connector on the power supply side melted during operation despite being fully inserted. The user noted that the thermal sensor failed to trigger the protection mechanism, allowing the plastic housing to melt and the pins to suffer damage.

The user suggests a design flaw in the TempGuard implementation. The NTC thermistor is reportedly positioned on the ground pin side rather than the power-carrying side, which may cause the sensor to register lower temperatures or react too slowly to critical heat buildup in the power pins.
