On September 19, an attacker compromised privileged signing keys to target Fetch.ai, SingularityNET, and NuNet, all members of the Artificial Superintelligence Alliance. The breach involved siphoning existing tokens and minting new ones, resulting in approximately 2.3 billion newly created assets, including AGIX, NTX, CGV, and WMTx.
The attacker siphoned 8.72 million FET tokens from the Fetch.ai TokenConversionManagerV3 contract and minted 408.5 million unauthorized NTX tokens. Realized profits from token sales are estimated between $2 million and $2.25 million, while the total value of the attacker's holdings peaked at approximately $16.77 million.
Following the exploit, the price of NTX dropped by 65% to 90%. Security firms Blockaid, PeckShield, and Bitquery identified a single attacker cluster behind the activity. In response, the affected projects paused operations, deactivated the compromised keys, and shut down the vulnerable contracts.
The investigation into the incident remains active. Analysts warn that further losses are possible as some wallets associated with the attacker have not yet been secured.
