Aptos is developing infrastructure for autonomous AI agents to facilitate machine-to-machine commerce. The core of this initiative is the x402 payment protocol, which enables micropayments for API calls, data requests, and compute cycles. Since its launch in May 2025, the ecosystem has processed over 100 million transactions, with USDC accounting for more than 99% of settlements.

The network offers transaction finalization in under 50 milliseconds with fees below $0.0005. Currently, the total stablecoin market capitalization on the Aptos blockchain is approximately $1.9 billion. CEO Avery Ching highlights that stablecoins provide the necessary programmability, spending controls, and audit trails required for enterprise-grade agent deployments.

In March 2026, Aptos launched Agent Cloud in partnership with io.net, allowing AI agents to autonomously rent GPU resources using smart contracts and USDC. Furthermore, in May 2026, the Aptos Foundation and Aptos Labs allocated $50 million to support infrastructure development, including projects like the Decibel order book platform and the Shelby decentralized storage solution.
