Apple has released a new beta firmware version 9B5043a for eight headphone models, including the AirPods Pro 3, AirPods 5, and AirPods Max 2. The update is available for both developers and public beta testers, coinciding with the fourth developer previews of macOS 27.2, iOS 27.2, and iPadOS 27.2.
The company has not provided an official changelog for the release. Industry observers suggest that the update primarily focuses on bug fixes and improvements to the overall audio performance of the devices. The firmware version remains consistent across all eight supported headphone models.
To install the update, users must ensure their iPhone, iPad, or Mac is running the latest operating system version with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi enabled. The AirPods must be placed inside their charging case, connected to a power source, and kept closed. The installation process requires at least 30 minutes to complete.
For the AirPods Max 2, the update procedure involves connecting the device to a host machine via a charging cable while maintaining a Bluetooth connection. If the update process fails, Apple recommends that users reset their headphones and attempt the installation again.
