Apple has introduced the A20 Pro chip, built on a 2nm process. This processor will serve as the core computing platform for the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max models.
The chip features a 6-core CPU, including two performance cores that are 20% faster than the previous generation. It also includes four efficiency cores and a 7-core GPU with performance increases of up to 40%.
For AI tasks, the A20 Pro is equipped with two Neural Engines, totaling 32 cores. A new generation of neural accelerators has doubled the 8-bit floating-point operation speed, while memory bandwidth has increased by 50% to support on-device models and complex inference tasks.
The company claims the performance cores reach desktop-level performance and are the fastest cores in any smartphone. The chip will power on-device AI features for the iPhone 18 Pro, such as expressive voice, improved on-device dictation, and visual search.
