The upcoming iPad mini 8 is expected to feature an LTPS OLED display, marking a transition to OLED technology for the compact tablet line. Despite the shift in panel type, reports indicate the screen will maintain a 60Hz refresh rate rather than adopting the 120Hz ProMotion technology found in higher-end models.
Industry sources suggest that Apple is utilizing LTPS backplane technology to manage costs and power consumption. This decision creates a clear technical distinction between the iPad mini and the iPad Pro series, which currently employs dual-layer LTPO OLED panels capable of dynamic refresh rates ranging from 10Hz to 120Hz.
Beyond the display, the new iPad mini is rumored to include several hardware enhancements. Expected upgrades include the integration of the A20 Pro chip, a repositioned front-facing FaceTime camera for landscape orientation, improved speaker systems, and increased water resistance.
While Apple has not yet confirmed an official event, market expectations point to a product launch scheduled for October. The transition to OLED is anticipated to be the primary highlight of this release, offering users improved contrast, color accuracy, and deeper black levels compared to previous generations.
