Apple has confirmed that it is developing a software update to address a recurring restart issue affecting iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max models. The problem occurs when users attempt to unlock their devices using Face ID and the authentication fails, causing the system to freeze and reboot.

The company expects to release the fix early next week. While the bug does not impact every user, reports on social media indicate a significant number of affected devices. Some users previously sought hardware replacements, believing the restarts were due to physical defects, but Apple now advises that a software patch will resolve the issue.

The iPhone 18 Pro series features a redesigned Face ID sensor system with an infrared camera relocated beneath the display near the status bar. This change reduced the visible area of the Dynamic Island by approximately 25 percent. Apple also released watchOS 27.0.1 today to fix random restart issues on Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4.
