Apple reportedly plans to skip the iPhone 19 branding and release the iPhone 20 series in 2027 to mark the twentieth anniversary of the smartphone line. This strategy mirrors the company's decision to bypass the iPhone 9 in favor of the iPhone X, which introduced significant design changes.

Leaked information suggests that the upcoming devices will feature a quad-curved display design, moving away from the traditional flat screen panels. The manufacturer aims to achieve a borderless visual effect by utilizing extremely narrow bezels across the new series.

Despite earlier rumors regarding a transition to full under-display Face ID technology, recent reports indicate that the iPhone 20 will retain the Dynamic Island design. Images of alleged screen glass covers show that the punch-hole cutout remains present on the device.

Implementing under-display Face ID presents significant technical challenges compared to standard under-display cameras. The system relies on a dot projector that emits thousands of infrared light spots, which are sensitive to physical diffraction and light transmission issues inherent in OLED panels.

Engineers must address concerns regarding screen quality, such as the potential for a screen-door effect and burn-in risks, while maintaining high production yields and security standards. Consequently, Apple may opt to keep some components visible rather than fully integrating the sensor array.
