Apple will release iOS 27 on September 14, compatible with iPhone 11 and newer models. The update introduces a conversational Siri AI based on Apple Intelligence, which is limited to iPhone 15 Pro and later devices. This feature is currently restricted to English and will not be available in the European Union due to regulatory issues.
The update includes performance improvements, such as a 30% faster app launch speed, 70% faster photo loading, and 80% faster AirDrop transfers. New creative tools for photos and image generation, along with natural language automation for Shortcuts, are also part of the Apple Intelligence suite.
The new iPhone Handoff feature allows users to switch a single phone number between two iPhones. The service requires carrier support, with T-Mobile charging $5 per month. Verizon and Deutsche Telekom are among the carriers planning to support this functionality.
iOS 27 adds bill-splitting capabilities via Apple Cash and Siri, allowing users to scan receipts and calculate individual shares. The Find My app now offers granular location sharing controls, enabling users to set custom durations or temporarily hide their location.
CarPlay now supports video streaming via AirPlay, restricted to when the vehicle is parked. Developers can now build interfaces for browsing video content directly on car displays. The update also refines the Liquid Glass design language with new transparency and contrast controls.
