Apple has confirmed that its first foldable smartphone, the iPhone Duo, will launch in October with iOS 27.1 pre-installed. The device will skip the initial iOS 27.0 release, which is scheduled for standard iPhone models on September 14.
The iPhone Duo features a book-style folding design with a 5.5-inch outer display and a 7.8-inch flexible inner screen. Apple engineers prioritized iOS 27.1 to ensure optimal performance for the device's unique hardware, including its magnetic hinge, multi-angle hovering, and seamless screen transitions.
The iOS 27.1 update includes specific features for the foldable form factor, such as a hover control panel for semi-folded states, advanced window management allowing three apps to run simultaneously, and optimized virtual keyboard layouts. The system also supports Apple Intelligence capabilities.
The release of iOS 27.1 will coincide with the iPhone Duo's market debut in October. Following the launch, the update will be made available to other compatible iPhone models, providing stability improvements and feature optimizations for the broader user base.
