Apple is developing dedicated gaming controllers for the iPhone, according to reports from journalist Mark Gurman. References to two unannounced devices with model identifiers T6502 and T1057 were recently discovered within the iOS source code.
The upcoming hardware is expected to feature standard controls, including a D-Pad and analog sticks, along with haptic feedback motors. It is also possible that the controllers will incorporate built-in accelerometers and gyroscopes, though their final design remains undisclosed.
The project is reportedly being managed by Beats executives, and the controllers may be released under the Beats brand. This branding strategy suggests a focus on a more accessible market segment compared to premium Apple-branded accessories, utilizing more cost-effective materials.
The introduction of these controllers is intended to strengthen the gaming ecosystem across Apple devices, including Apple TV 4K. The company aims to increase user engagement as more AAA titles become available on the iOS and macOS platforms.
