The Apple WebKit team has officially opened the proposal submission process for the Interop 2027 project. The window for submitting new focus areas runs from September 3 to September 23, 2026. Developers are invited to create proposals on GitHub or support existing ones through comments.

The Interop initiative, which began in 2022, involves major industry players including Apple, Google, Microsoft, Mozilla, Bocoup, and Igalia. The project aims to ensure consistent support for modern web technologies across different browsers. Participants track progress using shared test sets.

The project has demonstrated significant results in recent cycles. Apple reported that the pass rate for selected tests across all browsers rose from 29% at the start of 2025 to 97% by the end of the year. For the current Interop 2026 cycle, the team has identified 20 key focus areas.

Proposals for 2027 must be based on stable, mature web standards and be testable. Each submission should address a specific interoperability issue, provide real-world use cases, and include evidence of technical impact. If existing tests are insufficient, submitters must propose a plan to complete them by the autumn.
