Apple has officially introduced the AirPods 5, featuring enhanced active noise cancellation that the company claims reduces background noise by 50% more than the previous generation. The new earbuds incorporate volume controls directly on the stem, a feature previously exclusive to the Pro line, allowing users to adjust levels with a simple swipe.
The device is powered by the H2 chip, enabling hands-free Siri and Apple Intelligence capabilities. These features will integrate with the upcoming iOS 27 beta to analyze personal context from emails, messages, and photos, providing more relevant responses. Users can now interact with Siri to perform tasks or retrieve information without using their phone.
Audio performance includes an improved Transparency mode and Adaptive Audio, which balances noise cancellation based on the user's environment. The Conversation Awareness feature automatically lowers media volume when the user starts speaking. Battery life is rated for up to five hours of listening time with noise cancellation enabled, extending to 22 hours with the charging case.
The AirPods 5 are available for pre-order starting at $129, with a version including a Wireless Charging Case priced at $149. The product is scheduled to arrive on September 18.
