Apple has released a new guide titled Building Healthy Habits: A Family Guide in collaboration with the American Academy of Pediatrics. The initiative integrates pediatric recommendations directly into the parental control tools available in the iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27 operating systems.
The guide introduces a six-step framework for families to manage digital habits. Key features include creating child accounts for age-appropriate protections, setting screen time limits, and managing communication. Parents can also adjust security settings for apps and websites, including approval requests for new downloads.
The American Academy of Pediatrics provides age-specific screen time recommendations covering infants, toddlers, school-age children, and teenagers. These guidelines allow parents to tailor media usage strategies based on the developmental stage of their children.
To utilize the full suite of parental control features, all family devices must be updated to the latest OS versions. These tools are designed to manage usage across various Apple hardware, including the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, iPad Pro, and MacBook models.
Sumbul Desai, Apple's Vice President of Health and Fitness, stated that the integration aims to provide families with practical starting points for digital regulation. The initiative is intended to facilitate parent-child communication and help children develop healthy habits as they grow.
