Apple is currently conducting a technology investigation into a potential screen-less fitness tracker. The device is envisioned as a thin fabric band featuring a sensor-equipped computing module, which would compete directly with products from Whoop, a company recently valued at over $10 billion.
According to reports, Apple has already developed several prototypes of the wearable. However, the company has not yet made a final decision on whether to proceed with full-scale development and a commercial release. If the project moves forward, the product is not expected to launch before 2028.
This initiative comes during a period of leadership transition at Apple, following the appointment of John Ternus as CEO in August, while Tim Cook has transitioned to the role of executive chairman. The company is currently navigating challenges related to rising costs caused by a memory shortage.
Despite these internal shifts, Apple continues to work on a pipeline of new hardware, including foldable phones, tablets, and MacBook Pro models. Simultaneously, the company is involved in legal proceedings against OpenAI, alleging trade secret theft as part of its broader strategy to secure a leading position in the AI hardware market.
