Apple has officially addressed concerns regarding the screen crease on its upcoming iPhone Duo. The company confirmed that the crease has not been completely eliminated, opting instead for a design strategy aimed at minimizing its visual prominence and impact on the user experience.
To reduce visibility, the device features a custom nano-texture display technology designed to minimize glare and reflections. According to Tom Malibu, Apple's VP of Hardware Engineering, this matte treatment prevents traditional glossy surfaces from highlighting surface irregularities under light, making the crease less noticeable over time.
The internal screen structure incorporates a multi-layer design, including high-strength glass, a titanium support plate, and a custom adhesive layer. This configuration allows the display layers to slide during folding, which helps distribute stress more evenly and mitigates the formation or expansion of the crease.
Apple also redesigned the hinge mechanism to ensure stability across various folding angles. The engineering team focused on adjusting damping and torque curves to provide a consistent tactile feel, aiming for a premium experience during opening, closing, and half-folded use.
While early media reviews confirm that a crease remains visible under specific lighting conditions, it is described as less pronounced than in many competing foldable devices. Apple has not yet released official data regarding the device's folding lifespan, leaving its long-term durability to be verified after the product launch.
