Apple has released new child safety features integrated into the latest updates for iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27. These tools expand existing parental controls, allowing guardians to manage application access, communication contacts, and screen time limits more effectively.

The update introduces a streamlined account setup process for children, enabling age-appropriate protections from the start. Parents can now curate a list of permitted apps, with the option to grant additional access over time as needed.

A new 'Request to Browse' feature requires parental approval for children to visit new websites in Safari. Furthermore, the communication safety tools now detect and block graphic violence or nudity in shared photos and videos, including during live FaceTime calls.

The 'Screen Time' dashboard has been redesigned to provide a usage overview and one-tap permission adjustments. Parents can also set time limits for specific app categories, such as social media and gaming, based on guidelines from the American Academy of Pediatrics.

To utilize these features, all devices within a Family Sharing group must be updated to iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27, watchOS 27, or visionOS 27. Apple has also launched a dedicated website to provide usage instructions and safety guidance for families.
