Apple has introduced a new sign language interpretation API in the iOS 27.2 Beta 1 update. This interface allows third-party applications to integrate sign language services directly into FaceTime calls without requiring users to switch to separate video platforms.

The company clarified that FaceTime does not include built-in automatic sign language translation. Instead, the API acts as a bridge for professional human interpreters and specialized accessibility apps to function within a single, unified call session.

This initiative follows the initial preview of the accessibility feature announced in 2026. With the API now available in the latest beta version, developers and interpretation service providers can begin building and testing applications that leverage this integration.
