Apple has updated its official documentation regarding the handwashing detection feature. According to the company's website, the newly released Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4 models are not listed among the devices that support this functionality.
The handwashing feature, which remains available on previous models such as the Series 9, 10, and 11, automatically triggers a 20-second timer when it detects handwashing motions. The system relies on the device's accelerometer and microphone to identify the sound of running water and soap usage.
While the feature is still present in the watchOS 27 health application, it is currently unclear whether the absence of the new models from the support list is a technical omission by Apple or if the hardware lacks the capability to support this specific function.
