Apple has introduced the HomeView smart display, priced at $299. The device is designed as a stationary, always-on household hub that functions without a battery or detachable screen. It serves as a central interface for controlling smart home devices, managing calendars, and facilitating video calls within the home.
Unlike iPads, which are personal devices, HomeView is built for communal use and supports multiuser switching for up to six household members. The device integrates with Siri AI, which provides personal context by accessing text messages and emails to serve relevant information to users.
Apple executives Kaiann Drance and Lilian Rincon emphasized that the device leverages natural-language processing to allow users to control home systems, such as thermostats, through conversational commands. The system is designed to execute tasks directly without requiring follow-up questions.
The hardware acts as an Apple Home hub, allowing family members to interact with smart home controls without needing their own personal phones or tablets. Apple positions the product as a solution for households seeking a shared, accessible interface for home automation.
