Apple executives John Ternus and Greg Joswiak recently detailed the development of the iPhone Duo, the company's first foldable smartphone. The project involved years of secret research, focusing on overcoming challenges related to screen creases, user interface design, and hardware integration.

To address screen creases and reflections, Apple utilized nano-texture technology previously found in iPad Pro and professional displays. The device features a 7.8-inch internal screen, with the iOS 27 interface optimized to keep controls accessible on the right side of the device during both folded and unfolded use.

The iPhone Duo supports Apple Pencil, a decision Ternus defended by noting the device's role as a professional canvas. The company maintained strict internal security and physical isolation for the project to protect the design and the magnetic hinge mechanism until the official launch.

Priced starting at $1999, the device is described as Apple's most complex industrial design to date. Apple is currently working with third-party developers to ensure native support for video streaming and collaboration apps ahead of the official release next month.
