Apple has officially launched the iPhone Duo, its first foldable smartphone, designed to deliver desktop-level performance. The engineering team focused on a complete internal overhaul to support intensive tasks like professional video editing, complex multitasking, and high-end gaming.
The device is powered by the new A20 Pro chip, which is optimized for sustained high performance rather than just peak bursts. To manage heat, Apple implemented a specialized vapor chamber cooling system that utilizes the larger internal surface area available when the device is unfolded.
The hardware architecture features a dual-battery layout, with cells positioned on both sides of the foldable frame. This configuration improves space efficiency and supports the power demands of high-load operations while maintaining a thin profile.
Internal components, including the circuit boards, were compressed and rearranged to accommodate the folding hinge and cooling modules. This integration is central to balancing the device's thin form factor with its high-performance capabilities.
On the software side, iOS 27 manages resource allocation dynamically based on the device's folded or unfolded state. The system is specifically tuned for multi-window workflows and cross-application collaboration to mirror a desktop computing environment.
