Apple CEO John Ternus has prioritized design in his first weeks, personally overseeing industrial and human interface design teams. Unlike his predecessor Tim Cook, who visited the design studio roughly once a month, Ternus makes frequent weekly visits to the studio to engage directly with product engineering and design processes.
The company is currently rebuilding its design team following the departure of several senior members, including former design heads Evans Hankey and Alan Dye. Apple recently hired Belgian furniture designer Julien Renault. Despite internal suggestions to hire a new Chief Design Officer, Ternus has opted to lead the design organization himself, integrating it into his direct oversight.
Apple is preparing several product launches for October and November. Upcoming releases include a new smart home hub with a display, an updated Apple TV, and a new HomePod mini, all featuring Siri AI. These devices are intended to compete with products like the Amazon Echo Show and help offset a slowdown in the company's services business.
A significant redesign of the MacBook Pro is expected, marking the first time the laptop will feature both OLED display technology and a touchscreen. The new model will also be significantly lighter due to internal component miniaturization. Additionally, an updated iPad mini with a better screen, faster chip, and a landscape-oriented FaceTime camera is slated for release between late October and November.
