John Ternus, the new CEO of Apple, is planning to shift the company's product launch strategy. The executive aims to move away from the traditional fall and spring release cycles to introduce new hardware more frequently. This approach is intended to help the company maintain its competitive edge in the era of artificial intelligence by fostering a more experimental development culture.
The transition may take time due to Apple's long-standing internal development processes. Currently, the company is reportedly working on several new devices, including updated versions of the HomePod Mini, iPad Mini, and Apple TV 4K. Other projects in the pipeline include AirPods equipped with cameras, MacBooks with touchscreen displays, and a special edition iPhone to mark the company's 20th anniversary.
Internal organizational changes are also underway under the new leadership. Ternus is evaluating a plan to reduce the number of management layers between engineers and senior executives. Additionally, the hardware engineering team recently dismissed a number of engineering program managers. These personnel changes follow earlier layoffs within the Siri and Vision Pro divisions reported in August.
The company has also adjusted its broader staffing strategies. Reports indicate that Apple considered laying off 5 000 employees from its AppleCare customer service department. However, the management team ultimately decided to put these specific reduction plans on hold for the time being.
