Apple is collaborating with LG Electronics to develop at least seven smart home accessories, including a thermostat, temperature sensor, and smart lock. While LG handles manufacturing and branding, Apple is involved in design, feature planning, and engineering. All devices support the Matter standard and Thread connectivity.

The smart thermostat (TMCTAW5W) features a 60GHz radar for proximity detection and a Far Sight Display. The temperature sensor (TMST2A6W) runs on a 3V CR2477 battery and monitors both temperature and humidity. The smart lock (TMCDD15G/TMCDD15S) supports Bluetooth, Thread, NFC, and UWB for precise proximity-based unlocking.

Apple is separately developing its own home security cameras and sensors, expected to launch in 2027 with a focus on AI-driven privacy. Meanwhile, Apple is preparing a new smart home control hub with a 6-inch screen and A18 chip, rumored for an October 13 announcement, though the LG-manufactured accessories are expected to arrive later.

This strategy allows Apple to expand its smart home ecosystem without managing hardware production and supply chain costs. LG, which acquired an 80% stake in the smart home platform Athom in 2024, is positioning itself as a key hardware partner for Apple's broader home integration efforts.
