Anthropic is aggressively expanding its computing infrastructure to compete with OpenAI. According to reports, the company aims to reach 5 gigawatts of available computing power by the end of this year, with plans to double that capacity to 10 gigawatts by the end of next year.

Data indicates that OpenAI is following a similar trajectory. The company is also targeting a 5-gigawatt capacity for the current year and expects to scale up to 10 gigawatts by the end of 2025. This marks a significant shift for Anthropic, which held only 1.5 gigawatts of power last year compared to OpenAI's 2 gigawatts.

This expansion represents a change in strategy for Anthropic. CEO Dario Amodei previously expressed caution regarding aggressive infrastructure spending, which was widely interpreted as a critique of OpenAI's high capital expenditure. Now, the company is actively pursuing data center deals to secure the necessary resources for model training.
