Anthropic has introduced an updated usage policy for its Claude AI, which is scheduled to take effect on November 12, 2026. The new guidelines explicitly prohibit the persistent and unnecessary abuse or cruel treatment of the model. This restriction targets repetitive and extreme behavior that lacks a clear, legitimate purpose.

The company clarified that expressing dissatisfaction, debating the model, creating dark-themed content, or conducting research remains permitted. If a conversation involves continuous abuse, Claude retains the ability to terminate that specific session. Such actions will not result in account suspension or affect other ongoing chats.

The updated policy also consolidates rules regarding deceptive activities, covering the use of fake accounts, fabricated media, and tools designed to manipulate public opinion in both political and commercial contexts. Furthermore, the company has refined its election-related restrictions, focusing on voter suppression and deception while removing specific limits on personalized campaigning.

New provisions regarding weapons explicitly forbid using Claude to develop or operate software for weapon components, including drone armaments, or to enhance the lethality of biological and chemical agents. Additionally, the policy prohibits unauthorized tracking of individuals and the use of the AI to suggest targets for investigation or arrest.
