According to a confidential IPO prospectus dated September 29, 2026, Anthropic plans to spend up to $84.5 billion on computing power from xAI. The agreement involves accessing the Colossus 1 data center, which is operated by SpaceX and equipped with over 220,000 NVIDIA GPUs and 300 megawatts of power.

The contract covers the period through 2029, with annual payments estimated at $15 billion by May 2029 and monthly installments reaching $1.25 billion. A key feature of this deal is a 90-day cancellation notice, providing Anthropic with more flexibility compared to its more rigid agreements with Google, Amazon, and Microsoft.

In total, Anthropic has disclosed infrastructure commitments exceeding $518 billion over the next decade. While 80% of these obligations are non-cancelable, the xAI partnership represents a flexible portion of the company's balance sheet. Additionally, Anthropic and SpaceX are exploring potential multi-gigawatt orbital AI compute capacity.
