Amkor Technology plans to increase its interposer wafer capacity in South Korea by more than 300% by the end of 2028. This expansion, announced at GTC Berlin on October 21, 2026, aims to address bottlenecks in the supply chain for AI and high-performance computing hardware.

The company is investing approximately ₩3 trillion, or about $2.2 billion, into its facility in Gwangju. Construction began on October 19, 2026, and the project is expected to create around 2,000 new jobs in the region.

This initiative builds on a strategic partnership established in July 2026, when Nvidia provided a $1.5 billion prepayment to Amkor for capacity expansion in Arizona. Amkor's investment in its Peoria campus has grown from an initial estimate of $2 billion in 2023 to $12 billion by September 2026.

Nvidia is simultaneously pursuing broader supply chain growth. The company plans to increase its substrate capacity by 2.5 times through multiple suppliers and is scaling up its testing and optical-engine capacity through 2028.
