The upcoming AMD Ryzen Z3 series for handheld gaming consoles is expected to rely on the Medusa Point mobile architecture. Reports indicate that these processors will feature Zen 6 CPU cores paired with RDNA 4m graphics. Despite the new naming, the RDNA 4m architecture is reportedly an iteration of the existing RDNA 3.5 technology.
The new GPU configuration will include up to 12 compute units, totaling 768 stream processors. This represents a reduction compared to the Radeon 890M, which utilizes 1024 stream processors based on the RDNA 3.5 architecture. Analysts suggest that these hardware limitations may prevent significant performance gains over current generations.
The competitive landscape is shifting as Intel has introduced the Arc B390 core, which has outperformed current Radeon 800m solutions in testing. Without a transition to a fundamentally new architecture, industry observers question whether AMD will be able to maintain its market leadership in the handheld gaming segment.
