The upcoming AMD Ryzen Z3 series for handheld gaming devices will feature a hybrid CPU architecture. Both the standard Z3 and the Z3 Extreme models are expected to utilize a configuration of four Zen 6 cores paired with two Zen 5 low-power cores, providing a total of six cores and twelve threads.
The integrated graphics component will include up to 12 Compute Units based on the RDNA 4m architecture. This graphics solution incorporates RDNA 4-style ALUs designed for matrix operations, which are intended to support technologies such as FSR 4, while maintaining compatibility with the RDNA 3.5 foundation.
AMD is differentiating the two processor variants through their power consumption profiles. The standard Ryzen Z3 is designed for the 15-watt segment, whereas the Z3 Extreme model is optimized for a 25-watt power envelope to maximize performance.
This new hardware configuration represents a shift from the previous Ryzen Z2 Extreme, which featured an eight-core CPU cluster and 16 Compute Units of RDNA 3.5 graphics. The new design prioritizes the efficiency of Zen 6 cores and the capabilities of the RDNA 4m architecture.
