The d4r project, developed by countervolts, enables NVIDIA DLSS 4 and 4.5 support on AMD Radeon graphics cards. The software uses a translation layer to convert CUDA calls into instructions executable by AMD GPUs, while replacing high-load computations with custom RDNA kernels.

Support has been extended to the RDNA 4 architecture, covering models such as the Radeon RX 9070 XT, RX 9070, RX 9070 GRE, RX 9060 XT, and RX 9060. RDNA 4 GPUs can natively process FP8 matrix operations, eliminating the need to convert FP8 to FP16 for DLSS models.

The project is currently in an experimental stage and requires a Linux and Proton environment to function. It does not support Windows, frame generation, ray reconstruction, or DLSS 5 neural rendering.

Testing on an RX 7700 XT at 1440p resolution in Silent Hill: Townfall showed DLSS 4.5 achieving 49.3 FPS. This performance is lower than DLSS 4 at 68.1 FPS, DLSS 3 at 71.9 FPS, and FSR 4 at 76 FPS.
