Melbourne-based Amber Electric has secured €49 million in a Series E funding round. The company intends to utilize these funds to scale its operations within Australia and accelerate its expansion into the European market.

The startup provides software that grants users access to real-time wholesale electricity prices. Its SmartShift platform automates the management of home batteries and electric vehicles, enabling the storage of energy during low-price periods and its sale back to the grid when demand increases.

Amber currently manages over half of all automated residential batteries in Australia. The company is actively scaling its presence in Europe, supported by a partnership with E.ON. This collaboration led to the launch of the Next Optimize service in the UK in March 2026.

The company is also developing vehicle-to-grid technology, allowing users to sell energy stored in electric vehicle batteries back to the grid. According to Capital Brief, the total disclosed equity funding for Amber Electric has reached approximately AUD 209 million.

Investors in the latest round include Morgan Stanley Investment Management and 1GT. The company aims to leverage its existing Australian model to transform distributed home energy assets into a functional component of the broader electricity grid.
