Ambarella, a developer of low-power AI processors for cameras and vehicles, has reportedly entered into exclusive acquisition talks with NXP Semiconductors. The board of directors selected NXP after reviewing multiple offers, including interest from Qualcomm and Nvidia.
The discussions are currently non-binding, and neither company has issued an official confirmation. Following the news on October 30, 2026, Ambarella shares experienced a decline of approximately 2% to 3.6%.
Initial reports regarding a potential acquisition by NXP surfaced on July 31, 2026. At that time, market reaction was positive, with Ambarella shares rising by roughly 19% and its market capitalization reaching between $3.25 billion and $3.9 billion.
NXP focuses on the automotive sector, which is projected to generate about half of its annual revenue of $14 billion to $15 billion. The integration of Ambarella's AI chips could enhance NXP's software-defined vehicle offerings by improving vision processing and driver assistance capabilities.
While exclusivity is in place, the previous involvement of Qualcomm and Nvidia as bidders may influence the final terms. Market participants are now awaiting a formal announcement regarding the deal structure and pricing, while noting the risks that talks could still collapse.
