Amazon has updated its Kindle lineup, introducing new versions of the base Kindle, Kindle Paperwhite, and Kindle Colorsoft. The devices feature thinner and lighter designs, with screens now flush with the frame. This design change was achieved by utilizing E Ink displays with a reversed cell structure for the first time in the market.
The base Kindle model retains a 6-inch screen with backlighting and is the most compact version to date. It offers 16 GB or 32 GB of storage, up to 6 weeks of battery life, and a 30% increase in book opening speed. Two of the four available configurations now feature an aluminum back panel.
The Kindle Paperwhite maintains its 7-inch screen and water resistance, while extending battery life to 12 weeks. The new Kindle Colorsoft introduces a color display using nitride LEDs and an oxide backplane to improve brightness, contrast, and color reproduction. Both premium models come with 16 GB or 32 GB of storage.
Premium models now include rear contacts for magnetic accessories. Amazon has launched a branded folio case priced at $80 and a remote control called Kindle Click for $35. These models are available in versions with or without advertisements to suit different user preferences.
