Amazon has officially responded to recent industry calls for a deceleration in artificial intelligence development. A company spokesperson stated that Amazon does not view progress and safety as mutually exclusive, emphasizing that model releases should depend on rigorous testing and established safeguards.

The company advocates for a collaborative approach between the private sector and government entities to define appropriate protections. Amazon maintains that collective action is necessary to mitigate risks associated with the rapid advancement of AI technologies.

This position follows proposals from other industry leaders, including Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, who suggested independent evaluations and a slower development pace. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman expressed support for pacing, while clarifying that this does not equate to a complete halt.

Microsoft has also introduced a new AI code of conduct centered on the concept of Humanist AI, following calls from CEO Satya Nadella for deliberate pacing. Similar arguments regarding development speed have been voiced by the leadership of xAI and Meta.
