Amazon is reportedly negotiating the acquisition of the AI startup Decart for approximately $7 billion. This potential deal follows a failed attempt by Anthropic to purchase the company for $6 billion. According to data from PitchBook, Decart was valued at nearly $4 billion in May, indicating a 75% premium in less than five months.
Founded in 2023 by Dean Leitersdorf, Orian Leitersdorf, and Moshe Shalev, Decart is based in San Francisco with operations in New York and Tel Aviv. The company developed the Decart Optimization Stack (DOS), which enables developers to run AI workloads across Nvidia GPUs, Google TPUs, and Amazon Trainium chips without requiring code rebuilds.
The startup also creates its own models, such as the Lucy video editor and the Oasis environment generator for robotics and autonomous driving. Amazon has maintained a relationship with Decart since May 2025, when it became a strategic customer. AWS also provided the startup with early access to Trainium3 chips.
The acquisition would mark a shift for Amazon, which previously focused on hardware with the 2015 purchase of Annapurna Labs for a reported $350 million. While Nvidia is an investor in Decart and was previously in talks to acquire the firm, the neutrality of the DOS software under Amazon's ownership remains a point of concern for potential rival cloud customers.
