Amazon is preparing its first-ever bond sale denominated in British pounds, with the launch expected as early as Wednesday. This move is part of a broader strategy to diversify its borrowing portfolio across multiple international currencies during 2026.
The company has already secured significant funding this year. In March, Amazon raised €14.5 billion through its debut euro bond sale. In May, it raised CHF 2.82 billion across six tranches in the Swiss franc market, and in June, it completed a C$14 billion bond issuance in Canada.
Total borrowing for Amazon in 2026 has exceeded $80 billion. The proceeds from these sales are designated for general corporate purposes, including the repayment of existing debt, capital projects, and investments in cloud services and AI.
Amazon projects annual capital expenditures of approximately $200 billion. These funds are primarily directed toward expanding Amazon Web Services and building out AI infrastructure to remain competitive with other tech giants like Alphabet, Microsoft, and Meta.
