Amazon has unveiled a new line of tablets branded as Alexa Tablet, moving away from the Fire name used for the past 15 years. The devices run on full Android with native Google Play support, marking a shift in the company's strategy. Development of the hardware was conducted from scratch over a period of two and a half years.
The lineup consists of three models: the Tablet 8 with an 8.7-inch screen, the Tablet 11 with an 11-inch display, and the flagship Tablet 12 Pro. The Pro model features a 12.5-inch Nanomatte display with a resolution of 2800 x 1840 pixels, a 120 Hz refresh rate, and 500 nits brightness. It is powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 8400 processor.
The Tablet 12 Pro comes in configurations with 8 GB or 16 GB of RAM and storage options of 128 GB or 256 GB. The device measures 6.5 mm in thickness and weighs 550 grams. Amazon also introduced a stylus and a keyboard cover to expand the utility of the new tablets.
The devices integrate the updated Alexa Plus AI assistant, designed for information retrieval and shopping recommendations. Sales are scheduled to begin on October 14. Pricing starts at $230 for the Tablet 8, $330 for the Tablet 11, and $499 for the Tablet 12 Pro.
