Amazon has acknowledged that some units of its 2026 entry-level Kindle e-reader may exhibit light leakage. Users might notice a halo effect around the screen edges when the device is set to dark mode and high brightness levels.

The company stated that this visual effect is a result of the design intended to create a colored border appearance. Amazon recommends that users reduce the brightness setting while using dark mode to minimize the visibility of these halos.

The 2026 Kindle lineup, released earlier this month, features a flush-front display design that eliminates raised bezels and extends the screen area to the edges. Reports indicate that the issue affects various batches of the base model, including both plastic and aluminum versions across all available colors.

Industry observers suggest that the light leakage may be related to the lamination process used for the touchscreen and front-light display layers. Amazon confirmed that the phenomenon occurs only under specific conditions, such as high brightness settings in dark mode.
