OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has rejected the idea of rebranding the company to OpenSI. He argues that while the term superintelligence is more accurate for modern systems, the public will continue to use the term artificial intelligence for the foreseeable future.

Altman noted that changing brand names is a difficult process. He cited Elon Musk as an example, who announced the renaming of SpaceXAI to SpaceXSI to reflect the shift in terminology. According to Altman, switching to the new term will not make the technology any less intimidating to the general public.

The discussion around terminology has reached the US government level. Last week, Donald Trump signed an executive order requiring federal agencies to use the term superintelligence instead of artificial intelligence. Meanwhile, leaders of major US AI companies have signed an agreement on technology control measures.
