Allspring Global Investments, an asset manager with $642 billion in assets under management, is currently in preliminary talks regarding a potential sale. The company is valued at approximately $4 billion in these discussions.
The firm was acquired from Wells Fargo in 2021 by private equity firms GTCR and Reverence Capital for $2.1 billion. A successful sale at the current valuation would nearly double the initial investment for the owners.
Approximately two-thirds of the firm's assets are invested in fixed-income products. Additionally, employees currently hold about 20% of the company's shares, which adds complexity to any potential transaction structure.
The move occurs against a backdrop of record-breaking consolidation in the asset management sector. According to Dealogic, global M&A activity in the industry reached a record $53.8 billion by late August 2026.
In June 2026, CEO Kate Burke stated that the company was prioritizing organic growth and international acquisitions of firms managing at least $20 billion. The current sale discussions mark a shift in the firm's strategic position.
