Alibaba Group has achieved a preliminary legal victory in the United States. A federal judge in San Jose, California, issued a ruling on Monday to halt a ban that restricted the Pentagon from conducting business with companies engaged in lobbying for the e-commerce giant.

The legal challenge follows a decision by the US Department of Defense on June 8 to include Alibaba, Baidu, and BYD in its list of companies allegedly linked to the Chinese military. Alibaba formally contested this designation, stating that it is not a military enterprise and does not participate in any civil-military fusion strategies.

The company filed a lawsuit against the Department of Defense on June 23, seeking removal from the list. Alibaba noted that the inclusion does not affect its global operations, as its business is unrelated to US military procurement, and the designation does not impose broader export controls or sanctions on trading its securities.
